Maps of Islay

modifier

Hello! At German Map Lab I got a note about three mistakes in your maps of Islay:

  • Salige Bay → Saligo Bay
  • Beinn Bheigier → Beinn Bheigeir
  • Kildaton → Kildalton

Source is this webpage. I have corrected the German versions.

Yugoslavia 1929-1939

Hello NNW, I need your help on a work you started. I'm trying to complete the category Locator maps of Banovinas in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, but the borders of the banovinas you made are different from this map. Where did you get thoses borders? I need to know which map is right to finish the work. Thank you. --  Flappiefh (d) 4 août 2013 à 21:35 (CEST)Répondre

Hello! I took Velhagen & Klasings Großer Volksatlas, Bielefeld and Leipzig 1938 as a source (see file descrition). It's usually a quite exact atlas but I don't know if it is wrong with Yugoslavia. Regards, NNW (d) 4 août 2013 à 22:38 (CEST)Répondre
My bad, I had missed the source in the description. Thank you, I'll try to find more different sources to find out. --  Flappiefh (d) 4 août 2013 à 23:03 (CEST)Répondre
According to the majority of the maps I found on the internet (1, 2, for instance), Yugoslavia looked like this from 1929 to 1939. I don't understand what happened with Velhagen & Klasings Großer Volksatlas, Bielefeld and Leipzig 1938 but I can't find the same borders anywhere. Please let me know if you want some time to do some research and discussion before I edit your map. --  Flappiefh (d) 5 août 2013 à 00:03 (CEST)Répondre
I think I'm able to correct my maps myself if they are wrong. :o) Yesterday I began to look for other old maps and of course I found these maps, too. File:Banovine kj.jpg is indeed a good reason to change the map (and this isn't, modern map, no source, quite bad quality). It must be possible to find a good source, it's only 80 years ago. File:Banovine kj.jpg is too small to create accurate borderlines but it names the Croatian Museum of History. Btw: even majorities in cartography must always be questioned. In most maps the Aral Sea is still a hugh lake. We don't know which map was made by using which other map. Regards, NNW (d) 5 août 2013 à 10:17 (CEST)Répondre
Hello, I'm the person who ask if a person is ready to finish the maps of the banovinas in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia (and I thank Flappiefh). I find an other map which I suppose it's an old because there is the coat of arms of the country on the left-hand corner 1. Nαturαls (Discuter) 5 août 2013 à 10:35 (CEST)Répondre
I keep looking for a good source. I agree that is must be from that period of time (1919-1939), but large enough to be used. We are three, we might find something. :) Btw, I think this map is also wrong (from what I've read, Hungary annexed the northern part of Yugoslavia in 1941, not sooner). It's not from you, but I'm working with it, and my discovery about your map made me think this one is wrong too. If you have some time, please tell me what you think about this. --  Flappiefh (d) 5 août 2013 à 22:53 (CEST)Répondre
My collegue de:User:Lencer found Fichier:Jugoslavija1929 banovine.jpg. Strange enough, I missed it when searching through Commons data. This seems to be a quite good source. It is a bit different from Fichier:Banovine kj.jpg but I will find a good mixture. :o) I'm already at work.
Fichier:Blank map of Europe 1929-1938.svg is a bit unexact in the southwest of Hungary but I don't think that this should show any annexion (the war hasn't even begun in 1938). It would be okay to copy the Hungarian border from Fichier:Blank map of Europe.svg into this file. NNW (d) 5 août 2013 à 23:09 (CEST)Répondre
I just found it too ! :) OK, I'll do the correction on Fichier:Blank map of Europe 1929-1938.svg, thank you very much. --  Flappiefh (d) 5 août 2013 à 23:15 (CEST)Répondre
It's corrected now. NNW (d) 6 août 2013 à 20:30 (CEST)Répondre
Thanks. Naturals asked me to complete Category:Locator maps of Banovinas in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. Do you want to replace your 3 maps or shall I do it ? --  Flappiefh (d) 6 août 2013 à 23:32 (CEST)Répondre
Not my maps but by commons:User:Friedrichstrasse. :o) NNW (d) 6 août 2013 à 23:40 (CEST)Répondre
OK, my bad. I'll redo them. --  Flappiefh (d) 7 août 2013 à 18:45 (CEST)Répondre

Hello again. Naturals tells me that the second map, 39-41, still needs some fixing, regarding Drina. He seems to be right. Here are two pictures : 1, 2. They show the northern Drina border following the river. Can you please fix it, if you agree with him ? --  Flappiefh (d) 7 août 2013 à 20:55 (CEST)Répondre

Not for the second file you linked because the Vardar region is wrong, that would be a problematic source, but for the first one. NNW (d) 8 août 2013 à 17:19 (CEST)Répondre
Thank you very much for all the corrections. Nαturαls (Discuter) 8 août 2013 à 17:56 (CEST)Répondre
